One Chance to Protect This Land

To transform concrete into beauty, restore tranquility to our neighborhood,
and honor what makes Newport Beach feel like home.

We have one shot to get this right. Let’s re-green this land - before it’s gone.

Let’s Protect What Makes Newport Special - and Build Something Better

An out-of-town developer wants to stack 30 three-story homes with rooftop decks next to Newport’s beloved Environmental Nature Center and preschool. This dense project would bring rooftop noise, traffic, and visual intrusion into a peaceful neighborhood - right alongside trails used by over 26,000 children and residents each year.

It threatens to devalue nearby homes, disrupt safety near Newport Harbor High School, and overshadow a nature preserve that generations have worked to protect.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

What’s now a crumbling medical site could be reimagined as one of Newport’s most treasured green spaces - a restored nature preserve with outdoor classrooms, quiet trails, and habitat for wildlife. A place open to the public. A place for all ages. A legacy for the future.

GLOW Coalition is calling on the City, the developer, and the owner to pursue a better path - one that preserves neighborhood character, keeps nature in the heart of our community, and protects what truly matters.

The Project

Tucked between the Environmental Nature Center and its preschool, this 1.5-acre parcel is currently a crumbling medical site - but it holds extraordinary potential.

If re-greened, it could expand the adjacent preserve to a 7-acre sanctuary for nature, education, and the community. More than just open space, this land could become a living classroom, a peaceful buffer, and a safe corridor for wildlife, young children and the community to enjoy.

For the current owner, this is a rare opportunity to be part of something that transcends the market- a lasting legacy of restoration, beauty, and community impact.

We’re organizing to show that the public is ready, the pathway exists, and the time is now.

Get Involved Today!

This fight will take time - and a community that won’t back down.

We’re raising $15,000 to fund outreach materials, lobbying, and targeted ads to make sure every voter knows what’s at stake. If City Council won’t listen now, we’ll make this an election issue.

We’re a 501(c)(4) because we believe in advocacy - and that means your donations aren’t tax-deductible, but they go directly toward the tools we need to protect this land and hold our leaders accountable.

Recurring donations are especially powerful - this effort may take a year or more, and your ongoing support keeps us strong every step of the way.
